B5 A4 as bad as MSN reviews say?
I currently have a 1994 90 quattro with the same 2.8L V6, 114k miles. The engine still runs fine, no oil leaks or anything. I still get near-factory mpg fuel consumption, but only if I drive calmly. If I treat it like a race car, a single sprint from a stoplight can drop the needle down a width or two. Maybe that's not normal for others, but that might happen at 114k miles.
Not a done deal yet, but I'm flying out to look at the car on Wednesday. I'm hoping to have it "Certified" by Audi Tuesday or Wednesday morning. They spend about 2.5 hours going over EVERY detail in the car to make sure it's 100%... for about $300CDN. The powertrain has already been certified, so it might be a little bit less. As long as there are no surprises, I should be driving home in it Wednesday night.
edit: I have been told that the control arms have already been replaced.

Good Luck man! Im assuming the control arms were fixed under the recall. Right?
Inspection done... heard it quick over the phone... I think they listed off:
-Misfire in the motor... fixed by computer diagnostic.
-Tires are toast
-4 burnt out bulbs
-Two clamps (steering related) are leaking
-One drive-line seal is leaking
The dealer said it'd all be fixed tonight and ready when I show up at noon tomorrow. Upon arrival I'll be taking it back to Audi to verify the work's been done. A little disappointing as the dealer said the car has "no surprises" but the big things seem to be ok.
