Problems and soutions
My Problem:
I guess I'll just start at the beginning. I drove my car (02 A4 B6 1.8t quattro) home from work Wed last week, car was driving fine. When I got home I got on my R6 and went down to Best Buy to check out some prices, I come home and get in my car with wife to go get some food and the car is blowing white smoke out the tail and smells like I am swimming in fuel. The car is also running like a muslce car with some seriously beastly cams on it. I get the car towed down to a import specialist and they find that #4 fuel injector harness is shorted and running at 100% wide open. We switch #4 harness into #3 injector and the fault followed, we try a new injector, and still at 100%. The shop also had a load light pinned for the harness. When we plugged it into #3, we got a nice flicker of light in cycle with the intake stroke. When plugged into #4, I think that the cosmonauts in the space station saw a nuclear flash of light. The thing never flickered and was so bright I thoguht it would explode. I checked the wiring back to the ECU until the housing and find no breaks or frays. So I am guessing I have a short on the circuit card. The white smoke I am guessing was from excess air/fuel mixture unburnt being pushed into my exhaust pipe. There was to much fuel for the plug to spark so it was filling my cat with A/F and burning off. When I drove the car home my wife told me that after about 10 minutes of driving the smoke went away. Reason being I unplugged #4 injector for the drive, so had no more pools of fuel. It ran like total ***, but what do you expect with only 3 cylinders running and the 4th dragging.
My Fix:
I had been wanting to upgrade the car for a while. I do not want this beast of a car because pretty much I don't have enough money, time or will to make my car go faster than my 5 thousand dollar R6 could go. Not only that, I want reliable power that will not find my car broke down every other week. So upgrade it is. Here is what I am going to purchase:
1. ATP GT2X elimnator Kit
2. ATP Exhaust manifold
3. ATP 3" intake pipe
4. ATP cat delete pipe (maybe)
5. Borla exhaust (what you guys think about this)
6. Mike tuned fueling kit with injectors
7. An electronic boost controller
8. Possibly a new DV
It seems like a lot, but it will do the job and it will be done right. Now, the biggest problem that I am facing is the ECM. I work on circuit cards and electronics in a back shop environment for a living, but the problem is I have schematics for the avionic equpiment I fix. I can easily open this thing up and visually inspect for shorts, but am limited to replacing very little parts because I do not know the values. A resistor normally has the value color coded on it, but any transistors, capacitors or diodes will leave me *** raped. The ATP software requires me to send the ECM in, but if the thing is busted...they will chip a broken ECM. Is there ANYWHERE I can find a ECM for my car? Audi's prices are ridiculous. I have the money for this turbo upgrade, but to smack on a new ECM will go over the top.
Last Thought:
Is there anything anyone can suggest out there that I will need on top of the parts listed. I have built an engine before on my old car, which was a honda prelude, and did not run into to many problems
, but it was a different beast. Anyone out there buy this kit for their car? Any suggestions, comments or anything? This purchase will most liekly happen by monday, because my ECM is going to get busted open tonight so I can tinker with it. Everything will be on order next week. Yes, I will take crazy amounts of pictures with it also.
LET ME KNOW GUYS!

Of course I had it vag'd. The fault codes were for #4 misfire. It is not recognizing the short on the ecu (if it is in fact that). I would also like to buy one of those Vag tools, where is the best place to get them?
oh i didnt see that you got vag'd in your post.... check out www.ross-tech.com for the cable/software. Might also want to check what the warranty is on the ecu with the dealer. I dont know if it expires along with the basic factory warranty, or is an extended warranty item like some emission parts are.
That turbo is not as popular as the 2871 but has a better low end and not as much as a top end as the 2871. To be honest its what I would go for I like acceleration over top speed. THe Mika tuning has had some horable feedback, might want to do a search for it to see what you think. Most peopel go with the Revo tuning which I have heard great things about.

One last thing, the Borla exhaust is one of the loudest exhausts sysems for A4's if you were worried about that at all

I have heard lots and lots and lots of complaints about the Mika tuning for GT2X. I know Baconbait hated it.
Personally, I would spend the extra $300 for the GTRS or a little more for GT71R eliminators.
If you get the GTRS or GT71R you can get REVO tuning. I have heard good things about REVO's tuning for the eliminators.
You can find a used ECU on-line for around $400-$600 bucks.
