Default B5 AEB eng Power Output Unit, Expert Question!

OK, I've got a 99.5 with the AEB engine and last week my power output control module N122 died. So I go and order a new one, but since my car's a 99.5 this poses a problem of when did audi run out of parts for that particular item. So I'm on ecs and I find 3 different versions of this thing but the one that stands out is the third one they have listed, stating AEB only and x200000 on. I'm thinking BINGO this got to be it and order it. So I get home tonight and I see the ecs box awiting for me, open it up and !@#$ it's the wrong one, but as I take a closer look at the old one and the new one I'm starting to wonder what does this thing REALLY do? It's a glorified switch, that's all, right (This is question #1)? So why is thing mounted on top of the airbox, what does the aluminum plate on the bottom of it serve(Q2)? Now comes the main question, the new part is like the old part, the difference is that the new one is a little longer and a little slimmer, and there's a slightly lower drop in voltage compaired to the old one (but I'm not sure if that's because it's newer so less drop), the plugs are the same, can I use this thing instead (Q3)? Any one out there try this before(Q4)?

you are talking about the ignition igniter, the oval piece on the airbox with two connectors going to it? You make it sound like this powers the whole engine in your title. Match the part numbers correctly, IIRC dbw doesn't have the ignition igniter.

Yes that's it. I know the part number is not the same, they don't even look the same, but my question is can they be interchanged.

well, there are three brands, bosch, huco and beru so it may not have the matching part #. You check your VIN where it says it splits, i think you did. Well best bet is to call ECS tommorrow morning or search on AW if somone else had the problem.

NO, NO, NO!

I don't care if the numbers match, that's not what I'm asking.

yes i read noob.
did you match or split your VIN # like it says on there site, if so and you figured out which one to order based on your VIN# is the one you ordered the same you have in your hand. If not, well what do we do now, i dunno, do you know. IF so plug it in and find out what happens if you cant wait untill morning to verify from ecs.

Figure it out yourself, call and find out tommorrow, search AW. After all its the "eng Power Output Unit" remember, lol.
