B5 OR B6?
honestly, if you cant come up with a grand, dont buy an audi. I could pay the 875... I just dont want to :P I obviously dont want to deplete my money on a frickin air pump... i'll wait till i have a bit more saved, past the 875, then do it. (well, it wont cost 875, i'll prolly do it myself) -- but yes, they are expensive to fix, and yes, that is the bottom line.
Once it gets out of warranty most independent mechanics who know what they are doing and worth going to charge 80-100 an hour for labor alone...including diagnostic work...I love my 02 A4 and will always have an Audi in the driveway from here on out...I think with a lip and some wheels the B6 is a great looking car...can't really justify a body kit in Michigan where roads are crappy and so is the weather...but done right they also add to the car...
I just picked up a white manual 2003 (B6) A4 FWD with 16,000 miles three weeks ago from a local car lot. It's a great car! And to make it even better, I get free service until 2008 or 50,000 miles. This is the perfect car for me.
I did have a problem wit the trunk lock, but the dealer ordered the parts and installed as promised.
