B5 Questions
Whats happenin guys,
Just some quick questions: 2000 A4 Black B5
Firstly... I have the stock wheels and tires on there, which are 16's i think... debating whether i should go 17 or 18s... not sure what the difference is besides the actual size... ride, comfort, handling... and i don't have the sport suspension, but will prolly be doin some suspension work in a couple of months... any suggestions would be appreciated...
i live in ontario, so heres what i'm thinking, since i have to deal with winter weather: keeping the stock wheels and putting new winter tires on them when i need them, and buying new wheels and tires for summer driving... is that smart???
Secondly... my seats are manuel, and the passenger seat is tough to move forward and back, i tried spraying some wd40 on the tracking, but it didn't seem to help... is there a quick fix, or does someone have the same problem???
Lastly... my alarm seems to go off when i leave the window slightly open after a couple of minutes... is that normal???
thanks guys
cheers

Stock wheels with winter tires is a pretty good idea. I did the same thing on my B5. Adding 18" wheels to non-sport wheels isn't gonna look too pretty. There is going to be some large wheel gap. I had a pretty large gap when I added 17" to my non-sport.
first try and poke your head under the seat while your trying to move it... make sure nothing is stuck in the tracks.. second off lube it with some spray on white lithium grease
Is it windy when you leave the window down and the alarm off? That sometimes can set them off

take the seat out if its a huge problem... Easy enough to do. Alarm's a tuffy but I would say that the wind is causing it. Do your suspension befoire the wheels.. & i's stick with 17's. Good idea about the stockys with winter tyres.
Your wheel situation is what I'm planning on doing. And yeah, the alarm is ridiculous on this car. It's not loud enough to hear from inside the house, say, but people walk up to me at school and say "dude, your car is beeping." All the time. Wind, a car wash, bird ****, anything can set it off when a window is cracked.
And I'd do 17s because they look better on B5s, IMO. And the whole pothole situation. And 18s cost a lot more to put tires on.

Yeah man, same situation here with my wheels...stock 16s with sport dunlops on now, so I really can't use them during the winter. They'll probably be bald by November, so I'll put all-seasons my by 16s and use them in the winter. Then when spring comes around, I'll buy some 17 wheels and tyres.
How much do you think 17inch wheels and rubber is gonna cost? About $1,200?
I've got the sport suspension on mind, so I can't help ya there.
For the alarm, there should be a button on the column over you left shoulder (as you're sitting in the drivers seat). What's happening is the wind is setting off the interior motion detectors. On the column over your left shoulder, there should be a button. I think what you do is hold down the button until the light on your door-lock **** blinks 3 times in a row....or something like that, check the manual.
