Default B6, 2004 A4 1.8T Quattro - some q's

Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum and new to Audi but I am really enjoying the car so far.

2 questions:

1) What stock (ie OEM) halogen projectors come with the 2004 B6 and are these acceptable for HID upgrade without the proper retrofit/HID housing upgrade (ie just with basic HID plug-and-play)? I heard a lot about the B5 Valeo halogen projectors being a decent alternative but how about the US OEM B6 halogen projectors?

2) For those of you in cold climates, what winter tires are you guys running (please include manufacturer and specs if you can)? I was considering the Dunlop Sport 3D or the Michellin Alpin Pilot.

Thanks for everyone's help and kind consideration

Yes, there are kits to upgrade to HID. Do a search about it, there are many threads that will have all the info you need. Also, Halogen projectors are not even close to HIDs in terms of light output. If you buy a xenon kit, make sure to get the 4300k temp kit. Some people seem to think that 8000-10000k temp are cool, but they actually suck.

Thanks for replying 01A4T.

I understand that there are kits available - I have read many threads here discussing kits from vvme, visionbulbs, xenon depot, etc. And I understand how this upgrade works. My question is with regards to the OEM halogen projector that comes with the B6 model - is this an unacceptable alternative to the Xenon projector? On other forums (I am not sure about this one) people have used Valeo B5 halogen projectors to retrofit their cars (not only Audis) to HID lighting and most who are against retrofiting/HID kits have agreed that this is one of the only acceptable conversions they have seen. However, those posts only discussed the B5 Valeo halogen projectors, so that's why I am asking about the B6 halogen projector.

Thank you for everyone's time.

CRAZYHAWK,

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread. I have checked out that site before but there I could only find the specs for the bulbs in the A4 stock headlamps (ie H7). I am wondering about the projectors.

Am I not making any sense with my question with regards to the projectors in the OEM halogen headlights in the B6 model? Like I said before, on some other forums I found out that a lot of people were using B5 Valeo halogen projectors to retrofit their cars to HID with apparently great results. Since I have a B6 model with OEM halogen projectors, I was wondering if these, presumambly newer/better projectors, are just as good for conversion to HID.

Thanks again everyone

Yes you can buy an HID kit for your stock B6 projector housing. There is no reason to buy new housings. Search and good luck/happy thanksgiving.
