Default B6 A4 tiptronic problem

Ok im gonna try to explain this as easy as possible,

I am painting the trim around the automatic shifter....the part that is actually metal, it is all scratched up and looks like crap, so i am painting it black....i took all the pieces out and got them sanded and preped for paint...then i had to go get paint!!

problem when i was driving the car i put it into tip to shift the gears for a little... but it WOULDN'T SHIFT!!

the question is, is there some kind of ground on that plate that i took off, is that why it is metal?? the pieces are still drying so i dont know if when they are dry and i put it all back together if it will start working again....has anyone had experience with this?? will it come back? or did i knock something lose??

TIA,

Joe

well, the paint is all dry and i installed it all back the way i found it...and walla!?!?!?! for some reason when i drove it now again....the tiptronic works again...so there must be some kind of ground system or something about the ring that goes around the shift **** that makes the tip work!! just some good info for people to know later...

There are magnets that are used.
