Default Battery off when key off

Hello,

I have a dashcam installed in my Audi A4 Quattro (2006). problem is when the car is turned off, the battery still keeps the dashcam on and therefor draining it when the car is not driven for a while. How can I get the battery to turn itself off when the key is off ignition?

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

You need to wire your dash cam to a switched power source. The power point (lighter socket) is always hot.

Thank you for your reply rhodes991.

Is there anyway to make the lighter socket a switched power? My wife's Toyota Camry's lighter socket is only hot when the car is on.

You would have to cut the wire and wire it into a switched power source (windshield wipers, cruise, etc...). Not sure you would want to do that, but you could. Find where it comes out of the fuse box and cut it there (or disconnect it from the fuse box). Then tap into a switched wire source coming out of the fuse box. Careful what source you choose. I would stay away from any systems management sources (fuel pump, ignition, air bags, etc...).

EDIT: Cruise would not be a good choice unless where you tap in is always hot with the key on. If you tap in where it is only hot with the cruise on that wouldn't be helpful.
