The best?

ahh, perfectly legal.
nice idea tho.
ive seen this before on the fastest nissan skyline in england, had all the lights taken out to allow an even more direct and colder airflow into the twin turbo's, he was using KnN's. well fit skyline aswell.

Yeah, a drop in K&N in the stock airbox is the way to go. If you're already looking to cheap out on the intake, it's unlikely that you're going to be doing the extreme performance mods that will require you to get a new intake kit.

And I love the 'cone filter intake that sucks more hot air in from the engine bay than the stock one ever would. +1

Meh, intakes are underrated... its very simple to purchase an effective heatshield

I've done super hard runs on mine.. never leaving 3-7k RPM range, mashing every gear on the backroads before for about 20-30 minuets, coming home.. and I can touch the cone on the intake...

Now the heatsheild on the other hand, HOLY SH*T HOT[:@]

+1 for intakes.. even though there as expensive as ***** and I coulda had a chip for what I spent all together[&:]

Well, yeah, heatshields kick ***. But I love the people who put a cone filter in their hood and then either use no heatshield, or an inefective one.

K&N unless you want it for looks, then I would pay for the CF Carbonio intake cause it looks NICE.

Quick Question though:

Do the Audi's use sound dampening foam on the inside of the air box?

Volvo does, so I swapped the panel filter with a K&N and removed all the foam. Now I can hear the air getting sucked in much better, sounds nice.

i just replaced my OE filter with a k&n and i did see some foam padding the air box. If its not the sound dampening what is it for? I also saw a smaller "pre-filter" in the air induction hose where it bends into the air box. I removed it bc it was filled with sand and i needed to vaccum it out. I drove around with out it in and it made a good difference. Granted i had a nasty OE filter, with the pre filter filled with sand, but the car does pull harder, and is much louder.
