Right now my 98 b5 has the red/amber tail lights. i really like the look of the red with the clear strip towards the bottom. where's the best place to buy them....do i need any type of modification to place the bulbs for those?

you might want to check carpartswholesale.com, they might have clear tail lights for your car.

 

If you don't mind used, check out car-part.com. Taillights really don't get banged up much anyway. Yeah it will require the swapping of two wires.
