Default BIG PROBLEM

I have massive problem with my Audi A4(B5) 1.8 03/95, i live in Portugal and today went through half of the country to help out a friend with something. When i got to the destination point after about driveing 200Km i stoped the car, switched it off and went to sort out the problem with my friend, it took us about 15 min, when i come back i couldnt start the car. What was happening, as soon as i turn the ignition key the car would start, rev till about 2000 RPM then switch off, i repetedly done it for about 12 times and car started, i went all the way back - another 200Km. Parked my car infront of my house, then when i come back after about 2 hours couldnt start it for about 30 min, same thing, reving till 2000RPM, no metter how hard i was pushing GAS pedale, then just switch off. And indicator of the KM on the dash board started showing OEL under main milege number.

What can it be, or if someone had the same sort of problem, could you help me out with adwise please.

Much apreciated...

Bro, its the ignition switch on the right side of your steering wheel. Well in your case probably on the left.

Hint: Its where you stick the key in

I had mine replaced also. Thats what seems to be the problem

Well all of you right, the ignition lock is broken, coz sometime it detect the key, somethime it dosent, so its rother KEY it self or lock. The OEL problem is power steering OIL is low, my car sart makeing a lot of noise when turning in the very sharp turns. So i am closing this treat with agreenment on both ansewars of my question.

Thanx a lot, you fellows just saved me arround 250€ on diagnostics.

OEL is the indicator that it is time to get you oil changed it goes away after a couple miles. It is just a friendly reminder.

Ignition switch is behind the part you put your key into. It is a spring loaded switch to keep your car from staying in start all the time. It should be a white cylinder you have to remove the instrument cluster to see it. There should be a few wires with a purple head on them attached to it.

I've had infinite problems with my ignition switch and steering column wiring and I've never had it turn off like that. In fact, I've been driving around w/o the steering column cover for about 2 months now b/c last time it burned up smoke was coming out. [:@]
