Default BIG short shifter problem

Alright i have a 99 1.8T quattro with the OLDER style shifter (the one that has that stupid white curved piece above the ball joint). I removed it reassembled it with my new neuspeed short shifter i bought (http://www.namotorsports.net/detail...._cd/NS66.10.61). Installed it back into the shift housing/bucket whatever and right away noticed a problem. The shifter rubs along the bottom of the bucket! It makes it really hard to get it down/up into neutral from any of the gears. I've seen others with the exact same setup as me and it works fine, and i swear I installed everything correctly and was careful not to lose any hardware or anything. please someone tell me theressomething i can do to fix this, sorry i wish i had pictures for you but i lost my usb cable for my camera yesterday.

Its hard to say what was done wrong without that pic.

How far up is the shifter sitting compared to the stock location. Maybe it just needs to be raised. Not sure really need a pic

yes i know, it sits exactly at the same height as stock shifter. I was looking and thinking if I add a few washers underneathe the 4 torx bolts holding it down i might be able to raise it up enough. Do you know if there is washers already there with stock shifters? maybe the previous owner tried putting in a SS and lost them?
