mine didn't turn out as well as i wanted, but every time i try to paint, rain clouds rush in...it never fails, no matter how sunny it is.....but i did it anyway in the super high humidity....it took quite a while, i sanded the chrome with 150 grit, cleaned it w/alcohol, sprayed two coats of primer, cured it with a heat gun (cause i'm impatient like that), wet-sanded with 600 grit (important step, do it right, get in all the cracks), sprayed a few base coats of gloss black...then i sprayed on a thick clear coat and cured it with the heatgun again...i did basically the same thing with my front grill trim and front rings...

EDIT: .....getting anxious again....they're going in the oven....

covs, this is the tape i used..the widest i could find was 1 inch, and it worked perfectly, any bigger would have meant alot more cutting...

there are a few different kinds of 3m double-sided tape, this is the strongest that homedepot had, and it's also the thinnest. i'm going to heat it up pretty good with the heat gun before i stick it on, so there shouldn't be any gap at all. i don't think it's any thicker than the factory adhesive...

i just rolled out two strips across the rings and cut it out with a utility knife...here's a pic halfway through the cutting..

they aren't really on yet, i'm waiting to clean my car until after the rain stops for good...i just stuck a small square of tape on the back and stuck it on to see how it looks...it's almost flush against the body even with the extra piece of tape on..i can see that there won't be any gap with just the one layer of tape...
