Jestnomen, norcaltrojan, myself, and several others on this forum speak from experience as well as a comprehensive understanding of "how things work".
I just re-posted an article in the General Audi Forums Chat ("BOV's, DV's and the Audi closed loop turbo system") that I wrote in July, 2004. Check it out.
YOu put alot of thought into your little explanation there, friend; what you failed to realize is every turbo car runs a closed loop system, only semi's run an open loop. That's why at idle the turbo whistles so loud, b/c the BOV is in the open position. At a certain point in the modifications a BOV is required, as in my case, b4 my fuel pump failed me. on my new setup i will run a TurboXS race bypass valve untill compressor surge becomes a problem. But man just let it go, youve already spent hours typing out why BOV are bad. Just tell him how to install it. BTW its the same process as a DV installation just involving tungston welding.

WHAT? Welding?? Where did you come up with this whole welding thing? (BTW: The other name for wolfram is spelled tungsten.)
First of all, I didn't "fail to realize anything". It's an explanation of Audi turbo systems and why they need to remain in a closed loop.
And there's no need to be condescending David. My typing doesn't take that long! Furthermore, let what go? This topic comes up every other day. We are here to impart our advice, suggestions, and commentary. I would think you would have told him how to install it by now.

He didnt ask about DV vs. BOV. he asked how to install it. he spent around 200 bones on something he wants; telling him to drop it in his gas tank is a slap in the face to him and to me. (remember I run a BOV).

A BOV has an aluminum flange requiring it to be welded. I came up with it when it had to be welded. Imolas4, I dont understand this whole changed my opinion thing. i have not changed my opinion and i dont dislike anybody for disagreeing with me. It would be boring if everybody agreed on everything and there was never any disagreements. I just thought the responses to a newb's question were out of line thats all.
sorry about the misspelling of tungsten. im a horrible speller. And Jestnomen is right to a degree, a Bov is to intimadate and impress , but for me it served as a safety device. Justnomen, why did you buy your Audi? To impress? And dont you have a 12ver why would you have anything to do with an install
ONe more thing the reason i made an issue about this is b/c you guys insist on bringing up the DV issue. Yes a DV is better for your engine and a BOV initially is harmfull. all i did was tell him how to install it. I didnt tell him he should do it.
BTW i pm him and told him how to do it, but as i said I cant weld aluminum to well.

I'm still confused about the welding issue though. AFAIK the BOV's (available for Audi) are made with the proper flanges that just slip into the hoses - no need for any welding. Am I missing something about your description?

Damn that would have been so much easier. I bought a TurboXS BOV that had a Rubber tee with an aluminum flange comin out the top. = || = the two equal signs are rubber and the slip into the hose. the vertical lines are aluminum and has to be welded onto the BOV. And since TIG welding is not my cup o tea i had Protec performance install it.
um let me see. its really really fuzzy and you cant really see the weld at all. this is 5/03 one month after i got my car. The silver triangular thing is the body of the bov. lower than that youll see the adapter. the blackspot in between the triangular body and the silver adaptor is the weld.
