So then, i finally got my boost gauge.

i got a cheap one but i like it i guess. i spent about 30$ for a boost gauge that reads 30psi and 30vac.

when i hopked it up, i tested it out, it woulnd't go above 5 psi, and i had the gas down fully on the freeway in 1st / 2nd / 3rd. the higest it went was on third and that was at about 6 psi.

i don't know if my vac cable is bent and retarded but i'm gonna return the gauge and get another one because the one i got was open box.

so then .. what psi am i suppose to be boosting at? i thought the stock boost was like 8psi or 9psi.

i don't think i have a vac leak because im at like 21 vac. my frend told me 20 was normal or whatever.

i get boost spikes in third gear when the rpms are really high. i dont know if it kicks from 4psi to 6 or whatever. i just thoought i was suppose to boost 8 or 9. any solutions to why it's doing this? i'm gonna get another boost gauge and test that out.

Yeah, stock PSI is like ~ 7-8.

What are you running for a DV? Do you feel like you lose boost pressure? You should get a system boost test analysis; they have you floor it in 3rd gear and take it up to redline to measure the requested boost with the delivered boost, and if those don't match, you've got a leak either in the hoses or in the DV.

 

97-00 is 5-8 psi somethimes spikes to 10. Sounds normal to me.

 

i see, mine never spiked 10 yet, i don't think it will either.

it boost at like 3-4psi and in second/third floored it goes up slowly, to 5, then it has boost spikes with 6, i haven't hit 7 or 8.

i have the stock cheap plastic DV.

 

Youd have to be under heavy load to spike near 10. Like 3rd gear @ 30ish mph going up hill.

If youre getting on it, you should see anywhere between 5-10 psi. Casual driving would be closer to 3 or 4 psi.

 

cause i was on the freeway flooring it and i barly hit 6, and that was because of boost spikes.

it's weird because when its in third floored, it spikes like crazy, it's as if it turns off and on and off and on and off and on over and over until it gets so high that it just stops and i shift.

 

I hope your turbo doesnt create a vacuum otherwise your car would stall

The negative numbers on a boost guage are actually measuring inches of mercury

 

mmm, i'm boosting 3-4 psi. sometimes it would spike up to 10 like today in second gear when i hit high rpm it spiked 10 and went down to 3 or 4. this worrys me because mine doesn't go 5-10 psi when im stepping on it all the way. eh, i don't know whats wrong with it, vac seems fine, its at 20-21.
