There are several different lean codes. What is the exact fault code?

Just FYI, you didnt "get a vag com"... You "went to autozone so they could use their generic OBD II code scanner." Vag com is diagnostic software used with a laptop that does much more than just read fault codes

Thats the fault code i had when my maf went bye bye. Try cleaning it with nonaproxyl ( ****! cant remember how to spell it) alcohol and fine bush tooth brush. Youll have to take the top of the airbox off to get to the maf sensor, which involves disconnecting a few obvious things connected to it.

thanks for your help I'll give it a shot.

And you last question is the MAF located inside the airbox right below the filter if you where to remove it?

Its right above the filter. You dont even need to take the filter out... Just the top part of the airbox, and the maf will be secured to the top inside.
