Wax your wheels. It makes a big difference. Not basic wax either - use wheel wax.

Yes, I too would expect that more dust would show up on the fronts. However, for the first time in my life I been seeing far more dust on the rears of our 05 1.8TQ. Perhaps since it's due to still being very new (about 700mi), but after a week since the last wash, the rears look like what the fronts usually look like and the fronts seem comparatively clean. I've noticed this since day one....

My thought was that if the pad material was different on the rears, this seems logical. If the pads are the same, I don't comprende.....

There is NO WAY in the world anyone should be getting more brake dust on the rear wheels than the front. I would suspect that the rear brakes are slightly locked up if that is the case. How is your gas mileage?

I replaced by brake pads (and calipers) a few months ago. I asked for a lower dust brake pad and it made big difference.

Hi all,

I do have more dust at the rear wheels too. My car is a 2002 1.8T and I have been wondering about that for a while.
The car roles very easly on nuetral so I didn't think it was a big deal but does it worth taking it to service for that?

thanks

Serkan

mine are much much dustier in the front. Has anyone used EBC greenstuff pads? My friend has a is300 and was dying to get a set. they say 90% less dust or something.

The reason that all cars have more brake dusting on the front wheels is due to the weight transfer when you brake. When you hit the brakes, the weight of the car transfers forward loading the suspension which puts more strain on the front brakes.

The ebc greenstuff pads work great for reducing brake dust but hawk hps brake pads grip better.

Granted, I have a TT, but I'm switching to Porterfield pads. On my WRX, the R4S pads have been great, and although all pads will dust (the WRX is very front brake biased, too), it's not nearly as bad as the stock pads on the TT. I'm not switching just due to dust though. I think the TT brakes are excellent in the stock configuration when compared to most, but the Porterfield pads really impress me and may offer a slight improvement if broken in correctly.
