Brakes!
Searching I've found that people like the green-stuff pads, and most seem to just use whatever for rotors...but it also would seem that most of you have modified cars and drive them hard . Mine is stock and staying that way, and I drive it to work.
So, am I being dumb paying the dealer for stock brake pads and rotors? He's got everything in stock, no waiting. For the fronts its $284.48 OTD. $104 for the pads and $90 each for the rotors.
Any input?

You can get plain Brembo or Zimmerman rotors for ~$50 each. The price they're selling them to you is a little steep. You can get or drilled slotted rotors for that much. The breakpads are also a bit expensive. A whole set of EBC greenstuff can bought for the price you've been quoted. Definitely bu online and bring it all to a brake shop. You can get better quality materials for the same price they quoted you or find the same materials they quoted you at a much better price. Either way, I would put a little time in to make myself happy.
But is it a good idea putting those green stuff or red stuff pads on the stock rotors? Or even better question, is it a good idea putting those performance pads on the car that has no mods? Are there any drawbacks of those performance pads (for example they wear out faster or they make more noise - i'm making these up btw)?
Thx...
Thx...
oem audi pads are ATE and they are one of the best pads in the world, but be careful when you buy pads they sound good becuase most of the time youre not going to a good pads for cheap...as for the rotors they are not that important for the brand, as long as they have good surface youre in shape.
So EBC front green stuff pads are around $70 online whereas OEM ones are around $50...not a big difference and why would I get the OEM ones even if I had no intention to mod my car? Are you trying to say that OEM pads might be better quality then these so called performance? Wish I knew more about this..thx
I don't know much about the OEM pads, only that I need to replace them after 60k. That's not bad plus they never squeek. Personally, I'm going greenstuff in a month or two and probably powerslot rotors. I forget who but a couple sources gave them great reviews and they won some award. Since I don't know much about the OEM pads, I can't do a direct comparison on things like coefficient of friction, gassing, etc. However, I do know that I can find reviews on the greenstuff so that's good enough for me.
FYI, when people start looking into brake upgrades you'll see others post a message about trying performance pads because, for non-track use, that will probably be the improvement your looking for.
With rotors, if you hate rusting, you'll have to find ones that are zinc or cadmium plated to reduce it. That's my main motivation for nicer rotors.

I use a set of greenstuffs for my day-to-day street driving. I love 'em. Better bite, and no problems with squeaking. I'd recommend them.
I have no experience with Mintex Red Box pads, but they are VERY popular in the Audi community...a TON of people on AudiZine have them. So 50 million elvis fans can't be wrong. :-)
