OK... so for the past month i have been tryin 2 fix my rear deck speakers. I bought 2x Infiniti Kappa 62.5i 160w RMS 4ohms for my bose system in my audi a4 1.8t 1999, only to find out that the speakers i needed were 2 ohm. Great so now I need an amp. I bought a 400w amp for the speakers and and car amp kit. I ask my audi dude to do it, and he agrees. The day of install he fukn cant do it cus he's booked (then why did he tell me to come their at that time). Then I say "alright, lemme try bestbuy, see if they have time." And they do. Problem is when I get there 4 hours later for the appointment, the guy never bothered to mention to me that he cant use my car amp kit, that I have to buy an 85 buck one (2x the price that i paid). So I think thats BS. Now I have to go back to that audi dude.

Also... My oil is leaking because the last idiots to do an oil change for me put 5.5 qrts instead of 4.5. So we fixed the front seals, and we put a new oil filter in. The next possibility is the middle seals between the engine and the tranny.. Anyone disagree or agree with that and why... or has anyone ever had a similar experience. Thanks.

 

just to quickly let you know.. Dont mess around with your sound system unless your willing to pay what it costs. Its so much cheaper if you do it yourself but if you want someone else to do it.. then you better empty that wallet. 85 bills for a car amp kit is pretty expensive but best buy only uses there products.. as well as circuit city... what type of wire did you use 6gauge or 8?

Installing in an Audi is really simple. YOu just have to have pacience to do it.

 

when you dealing with 400 watts and up you gotta have a good gauge power cable.. i got 4 gauge so thats probably why they said you gotta buy a new one.. the thicker the wire the better.

 

the bose system doesn't work well with aftermarket speakers...it's better to replace the whole system, or just buy new stock rear speakers (they come with an amp)....where did you get your oil change done? if it was jiffy lube, grease monkey, speedee, or any other non-audi shop, then you're asking to get it screwed up...those places hire 16 year old without a lick of knowledge about cars, let alone german cars (i know, i have a few idiot friends that used to work at those places)...you need to go to an audi specialist for all your maintenance, including oil changes.

 

Replacing rear deck speakers is a waste of time money... honestly, I could turn off my rears, and you'd barely notice the diff... and they are getting 80 watts RMS. Upgrade your fronts... well, unless you get chauffered around in your audi, i'm pretty sure up front is where you sit.

As for an 85 dollar amp kit, I bet it's still not great -- well, it's definately not "expensive"... you can buy GARBAGE kits for less money than that... RCA's that have useless shielding, good stuff! The minimum I'd spend on 4 guage power/ground/fuse w/ rca's is ... I dunno, 150 bucks. This kit is 100, for just power remote and fuse, and I'd spend at least 50 on each pair of RCA's. It's stupid to "upgrade" your stereo and use **** wire. You'll get distortion and even feedback.

dude if you pay 150 dollars for an install kit...you must have more money than you know what to do with.....a good 4 gauge kit shouldnt run you more than about 60-70 dollars...and that includes everything....including the plastics to cover up the wire. I have never had any probs with distortion when installing car audio because of the wire.....maybe you've just had bad luck with the ones you bought.....sorry to come off like that but that just seems like a lot of money.

 

Or you make friends in the business like me and get all that extra cr@p for free

One major hint: Before you do ANYTHING stereo related, EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST. You'll save time in the long run, and LOTS of money. There's alot more to electrical wiring and sound than most people think. The more time spent learning how it works, the less time spent fixing sh*t when you fry and amp or blow a speaker just by messin with it.

 

Cheap wires are crap... you might not know this, until you've heard the same system, with upgraded wire. RCA's are by far the most important, in my opinion... that and a deck with a good preout (at least 4V). The RCA's are what take the signal to the amp... if they are bad, then the signal is bad, which is then amplified before it gets to the speaker. Honestly, I DON'T have that much money, but I waited to install my system, until I could buy the wires I wanted. I have about 600 bucks of wire in my car, maybe a bit more (that's including fuses). I have 4 guage wire, 2 amps, 3 pairs of RCA's, and speaker wire.

 

dude u dont need an amp or install kit to run those spkers just run a few new wires to the new speakers and ur done it pretty simple

 

Well the bose is factory amplified, with a tiny amp... so he upgraded amps, to a 400 watt one or something. So he did need new wiring... 8 guage would do for 400 watts though, but yeah, he needs power, ground, remote, and RCA's -- and fuses. Amp kits are usually a waste of money though, you can buy power/ground and remote by the foot, and then buy better RCA's and fuses -- and it'll cost the same as buying a kit, with inferior fuses/rca's.
