ya so i got home from skool 2night and smell a rly bad burning smell from the driver's rear wheel. im thinking it's the wheel bearing cuz the wheel feels warm and the other wheels arent' warm at all. ma skool is only 3 miles from ma house. any other thoughts?

also could it be a seized caliper? when the caliper seizes, does the piston come out or stay in position? or either can happen?

sounds like a break pad is sticking to the disc or the E break could be catching due to a bad cable but first thing is to service the calipers moving parts so the caliper releases properly or it might need bleeding

edit: I doubt its a bearing that makes noise

the smell from a stuck break pad is so amazingly significant, once you've got it in your nose, you can detect it on any car within a half a block - on a previous mid-performance car (SHO Taurus) I was pretty hard on the unit to the point that I boiled the break fluid and ended up collapsing the lines - had to replace many of the lines - should have gone with metal, but I didn't have the $$ - I did go with Dot 5 fluid throughout and a performance booster, etc - can't see a short trip doing this exactly, but abusing the brakes on a previous event (rally driving, hard braking from very high speed) may weaken things to the point that trouble crops up later and seems unrelated...

 

well it smells like a seized caliper. u kno that smell sorta like a fried electronic? i hope it's the caliper cuz there's so much rust in that area i doubt just replacing the caliper will do justice. let's hope it's wut techbod says lol

 

Ive done lots of them and in 99.9% it was what I said

 

once again techbod is right. i just took everything apart, lubed it and put it back together. i lubed it very well when i changed my brakes bout 3 weeks ago. well im just glad it doesn't heat up like that anymore.

dude i was so happy when it worked. one thing though, wut is behind that piston and its boot? i feel like a good greasing might help it or something lol
