Read the stickies for lots of good information. You didn't say if it is a 2.0T, 3.0 (not sure if the 1.8T was offered in 2005). That will make a difference.

If it is a 2.0 check if the timing belt/water pump/cam follower have been replaced. If not they all need to be and that can run around $1k depending on where you have the work done.

Make sure the motor mounts look good (if you hearing a clunking noise while driving that could be an indication they are going bad). Don't recall the cost to replace those.

If it has been maintained these cars can go a long time (I have 130k on mine with a timing belt replacement as the only major repair).

is it true the time belt could be a nightmare? I heard if they break, because of the audi engine, it will break the whole engine, rendering the car useless..

I keep hearing about these timing belts and hear its a nightmare
