You are looking at it from the wrong direction. He said he is firm at $3k. You probably aren't going to get so lucky that you just replace the head and the car is perfect. I bet you put $1k into the head and then find that you aren't done yet. Even if you fix everything and spend a total of $5k, someone didn't maintain the car well. You will run into more problems. Audis need to be well maintained or you will spend a lot of time and money fixing them.

A car is only as good as the owner who maintained it.

It looks like a steal, but I bet you that you are going to put a lot of money into it to make it right. You can buy a 98 for 7k that you know was better maintained. It will cost you less in the long run.

i found my car for 4000 and other than one control arm squeaking, there were no performance problems. You can find good Audi's for cheap, you just have to look everywhere

i was reading through the post and thought maybe....until i saw it said the oil light turns on...run..run very very fast...and dont look back. the bearing may need to be freshened up??? yeah right!! the bearing are prolly shot along with who knows what else in the engine, which means your better off just buying an entire good used engine. i dont know why he bought new lifters, if the oil light is turning on its prolly because of low oil pressure. next time you see the guy smack him in the face for trying to sell you his mistake (and btw $3000 isnt even a good price for the car.. maybe maybe $1500)

he said the engine oil light hasn't come on for a couple weeks now and he said it only came a few times. When I went and drove the car the light never came on. But the check engine light was blinking and I know that's bad. He said it's because the first cylinder is misfiring but when you get the rpm's up and drive above 30 mph the light stops blinking.
