Don't forget to check for sludge! Especially if you wind up finding a 1.8t, check it for sludge by seeing if there is any on the oil dipstick.

car looks good but u'll need to do a timing belt and drive it at higway speeds and listen for the wheel baring cause mine went at 136k...make sure the tranny shifts smoothly and open the hook to see if the paint matches cause it might have been hit in the front...take it up on a lift and make sure the mufflers arent really rusted cause if they are u would need to change them pretty soon....make sure switches and lights inside and out work...the usual checks for buying and old used car. if i were u i wouldnt buy it because its too old and its the first year of the model (usually they mess them up and improve them in the later years)...good luck

how much does a timing belt run usually? Maybe I can talk the dealer into covering it....I found a 98 audi but there are no engine shots but it has 140,000 on it....would I be better buying that if theres no sludge and pink coolant?

98 Audi A4

No, just if there is sludge (thick, gooey buildup) on the dipstick. If its thin and runny and golden-brownish, you're ok!

Sludge is your worst enemy! It causes cancer, Democrats, and Pokemon fans!
