Default A/C Lag?

Does anyone get Air conditioning lag (Car is slower when the air is turned on). Is there anyway to stop this? Do you have to seriously strengthen your 1.8?

I know how you feel. When I had my eclipse........not the same as the audi but I've owned the Audi for one day so I'm no expert and I can't say I've noticed the AC Lag you're refering to cause I've been using the wonderful automatic up and down windows and the perfect sun roof. However, when I had my eclipse turning the AC on not only robbed me blind of horse power and gave me a significant lag but it also sounded like it put a HUGE strain on my engine. So I tried not to use the AC too terribly often if I could help it. Oh yea and that was with the circulation on and everything and I still had the lag.

The condensor and pump and all taht good **** takes a lot of power, you may want to check some connection ands add some r 134a collant to see if that helps

anything turned on electrical will load the engine so what mods have you done? audio/DVD/tv/amp if so you might need to upgrade the alternator to compensate for the power usage

might be able to make a difference with a different sized pully on your AC compressor unit, but that PROBABLY won't do any favors for your climate control. and it might not make any difference. my suggestion, roll down your windows. there is no way you can have a/c on a small displacement engine without it having some type of negative effect.

The AC compressor robs maybe 7-10 horsepower to do its thing, and on a 1.8T it's pretty significant. That said, I got my car chipped to stage 1+ recently and that helped a lot.
