Default A/C not very cold

My a/c has started to blow not as cold any more. I have been able to get it cold but only after around 20-25 min where as before it took only around 5 mins. Can i just recharge the A/C? If so is it something i could do myself (a beginner mechanical skills) or would i have to take it somewhere? How do i do it?

Honeslty, the worst thing that can happen is, well..... it'll blow up & you'll die.... Just kidding.
Your Air Conditioning should not take 25 minutes to get cold, it shouldn't even take 5 minutes. It should be instantaneous as they run off a gas. It may be that it just needs to be re-filled. I dont think that there is way to test as usually people just fill em' up again when no cold air comes out.

I paid $26.49 for a can of R134A in Strauss Auto. Make sure your car uses this gas. With the A/C on find the low pressure valve. It will be colder and have a larger diameter than the high pressure side. Buy a can with a pressure gauge. Hook it up and recharge.

I paid $26.49 for a can of R134A in Strauss Auto. --snip--

Is that any different than the $7 cans of coolant you can find at K-mart?
