You won't even have to check the pressure probably, the tensioner should quiet up within 10 miles of driving. But yes you should see at the very minimum 2 bar at idle when the engine is cold IMHO.
Now I am confused, "minimum 2 bar at idle when the engine is cold". OR did you mean hot? Cold my engine is running at 3 bar for 5 min 2 bar for 5 min then it willrest at approx 1.3 bar when the oil is good and hot.If that is the caseI will leave now to pick up anew tube at the dealer and drop this in tonight.

Well both IMO, anything below 2 bar even when the engine is red hot always seems to have problem with the chain tensioner making noise. Take note when audi made the specs on elsa web they didn't think that the chain tensioner would sound like a diesel with that low of oil pressure.
I really highly doubt the tensioner is bad, the only ones i have seen go bad is when some retard was driving around with absolutely no oil pressure in the engine for weeks and were complaining that my engine makes noise and now its slow!? [:@]

Ok, I brought my car to the dealer and talked to the service manager. I explained that I have a concern that my oil pressure is going down as I am starting to get a slight tick at idle and I am at 1 bar while I am told we should be around 2 bar. They checked with a tech and2 bar is the approximate expected idle pressure. Approx 29pis.So they took my car and its receipts. Lets see what happens.

Now in the mean time I am still confused. I found this link
http://members.***.net/ambox/audi_sl...ctionScreenâ€

Now look at the Readingshe got on the first test drive:
[blockquote]
20 psi @ idle
45 psi @ 2000 rpm

This is what I have right now. Why didn't he get the 29psi since he put a new pump and pickup in.

Because bearing wear has a contributing factor to oil pressure.

Hi,

I found this thread very interesting and with lots of usefull information.
I have a Audi with the 1.8T engine, and of course after reading some of the posts I'm concerned
with some of this issues.
However my engine is a AGU and it was used on the Audi A3 and Golf GTI, in Europe at least.

Is this engine also affected by the sludge problems and these problems with the Cam Chain Tensioner ?
Or this engine (AGU) behaves like the engines on the Audi TT ?
How can I test the oil pressure of my engine '
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Best Regards

Luis

Ok my car is back from the dealer, had three techs look at it. The first pass they found no issues. The connected their super duty oil pressure gauge and recorded the readings. All were in spec. They did not hear the noise at first. After a discussion,I found that they only warmed the car for 20min not 30min.

Pass two I warmed the car and took if for a drive. The minute I pulled back to the audi dealer 2 tech and the shop manager said it was the tensioner. They showed me one and identified what fails.

So I am not going to get a tensioner.

Well thats good then, sad it took three techs to figure that out. [:@]
I wouldn't think your tensioner would be bad, sincethere isn't many out there that fail.
Well if it gets way too noisey down the road then change it if you wish.

I really drilled into them when they told me everything was fine and they wanted $55 for a 1/2 hour of time. I wanted to get my monies worth. So at the end I feel they gave me some good feed back and I have it on record that I had and issue and the oil was good.

Now I need to buy a tensioner. It appears that ebay has a fair price for them

$350 verse $750 from the dealer? thoughts or experence.

Yeah the one off e-bay should work fine, the one from the dealer is quite pricey, usually $550+ just for the part.
Its a major PITA to change too, it pays a technician about 6 hours flat rate to change as well, so you're gonna have that labor charge on your hands. Un-less you wan't to DIY, in that case i can give you step by step instructions with diagrams and specs if you provide me your VIN number.
