Can I use (2011) A5 Wheels on an A4 (2006)??
I have a set of winter wheels from an A5 (2011 Cabriolet), and I'd like to use them on my 2006 FWD Cabriolet.
So far, they at least look as if they fit okay. The offset is officially acceptable (tirerack), and the clearance at the back is fine (better than the original tires). There's no clearance issue front, back, or near the brakes or near the suspension.
Turning on full lock doesn't present a problem. The only thing I can see visually, is the tires protrude more laterally. The tire walls come out farther, so if there were a really huge pothole, I can see there's a maybe 10% better chance of the tire hitting the fender. But this is always true even with the original wheels/tires, if you're turning, for instance.
Anyhow, here are the specs of the new wheel and tire:
Wheels: 16" Rial DF 16x7.5, 35 MM offset
Tires: Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D 225/55R16 95H
I did the calculations, and the tire is barely 1/4" higher (the tire diameter is 0.4" greater) than the original. And this doesn't seem to be terribly significant, since a brand new original tire could also be close to this.
Has anyone else done something like this? Do you even think this could be a concern?
Thanks!
