car battery, maybe
Well woke up this morning and went to start my car up. I turn the key to the ignition but nothing happened! The car made some chugging noises but that was all.
I'm wondering if it's the battery or is it something else.
The lights turn on and everything and when I turn the key, the dash electronics go on for a second and then turn off. I also notice that the time/date are reset. The battery icon in the dash is also red, I never noticed it when I turn on the car so I don't know what color it should be. I read in the manual somewhere about red icons referring to the check engine light but didn't notice it for the battery.
I really hope it is the battery and nothing else cuz I got this car like a week ago.

It's more like thumping noises but really slow. I haven't had a chance to jump it cuz I was running late for work. But I figured that it wouldn't be wise to jump it and drive away with it cuz it might happen again.
Any recommendations on a battery for a 2002 a4 1.8t?

Yes you will have to input your radio safe code which is usually located in your owners manual or in the trunk spare tire wheel well. Please use the search function on this site.
Any name brand battery will be OK. You will need the radio code to get the radio working.
You must have totally lost power for an exteneded period for your radio to have gone into safe mode. Check the battery cables too. Batteries don't normally die to the point where they put out so little juice that it would cause that problem.

Hmmmm I drove it fine last night and found it this morning in this state. The radio was fine when i first tried but then went to safe the second time. I held down on the ignition and it made some sound in the dash. I really don't know what's going on right now but I'll let you know how it is after I change the battery.
UPDATE
changing battery worked fine, I bought the duralast battery from autozone.
It took a while for me to get the old batter out cuz of the bolt that was holding the battery down. The screw was all the way down there and none of my alan keys worked. Found one sorta long enough but found ways to use it.
Also, the radio didn't require the radio code so I was fine. I think I found the radio code in the trunk but didn't have a chance to try it. Thanks for all of your help guys.
