This is called a RPM bounce. it is caused by a change in the engine and that the computer is trying to get used to the change. give it a day or 2 days at tops to smooth out.

BTW? watch the battery voltage, does it go down when the rpm bounces to about 250-350 rpm?

I'd hate to take away from the questions at hand written by OWDI. But I am going to change the timing belt and water filter on my own on my 96 a4 Q 2.8. I'm very mechanically inclined so that's not the problem. But am I going to run into the same problem that OWDI is experiencing?? Right now my cars runs pretty smooth although when mine idles it bounces between 600 and 700 Rpms. Is that normal?? I don't feel a jolting and I can't really feel anything unless I try to closly pay attention to it. If you guys can answere both those questions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Actually i'm not sure if the 99 V6 has a IAC valve, further research says idle control is contained inside the throttle body. You may want to clean the throttle body with some throttle body cleaner.

There really isnt any way to check the other things, all you can do is start replacing things untill the problem is fixed.
Ok so how do i clean the throttle body? (Question 1). I am not mechanically inclined and I dont want to mess around with my car.

Most likely guys, I dont have a choice. If I can clean the throttle body myself, I will try that, but if I cant then I have to go to AUDI and let them check it out. But at least I know it could be either:

A) brrman said: dying ignition amplifier ($250) aka 'ignition control module'

B) Jestnomen said: Either Fuel Pump or Fuel Filter.

So now when I go to AUDI at least I shoudl expect some kind of response similar to yours.

yeah the amplifier is not a part you want to just go out an dbuy on a hunch. Get the car VAGed and see what codes are being thrown.

David_K, No, the battery voltage stays the same (above 14).

This shaking/Jolting has been going on for more than a couple of days, so I dont think its the computer.

I just hope nothing too serious. have to get the car checked out by AUDI.

Thanks Guys for the help and I will keep you updated on what AUDI says.

ehhh David, how can you be so sure its the computer? I might buy that if the battery had been disconnected and the ecu was adapting itself.
