car stereo upgrades information?
ill be getting a 2000 A4 2.8 (with bose system) soon and trying to find out how to upgrade the stereo. the bose system itself isnt too bad for stock but im used to having the BOOOM and the bose just doesnt cut it. i have 2 JL12W3 in my honda, though i doubt the box will fit in the audi but who knows. or i might end up just getting a single 12" sub. takes up less room.
with the 2000 models, putting in an aftermarket seems to be pretty complex .. it seems to require some modification/custom work, right? i prefer aftermarket units due to better sound and easier to hook up an amp to it, along with AUX-IN. though to make it easier, i guess i could just get an AUX-IN adapter for the stock unit to connect my mp3 player.
im also thinking about upgrading the front speakers to either polk/kicker/infinity systems (since i can get them at discount prices) .. how hard would be it to install those in the audi? since those would require an amp to run them properly?
in a honda, its pretty simple to do upgrade the system, but the audi with bose makes it complicated somewhat. suggestions? advice? links? thanks in advance.

trust me the audi trunk is alot bigger then a civic trunk. I took am looking for an upgrade, I was thinking of doing blaupunkts because they match factory radios well without amps. I would eventually like to put my kenwood powered sub in and lightly amp the sound system but I dont know about all that
why don't you just put in one 12" sub and leave the bose in there, put an amp on the stock bose speakers, that is what I am going to do, people on the forum say they are the sh*t when you put an amp to them. you will have to do some custom install depending on what you do, you can't just put an amp in there.
You'll blow the stock speakers just slapping an amp in there... you have to make sure all the Ohm ratings, and there are other things.
I am putting in a sub in my trunk and after reading about 20 posts between this forum, AW and AZ finally figured out the most correct way to do it.
I'd suggest doing lots of research between the 3 forums, theres a lot of information out there, you just have to search for it.

I'm mulling the same sort of thing -- non-Bose 05 A4.
On the one hand, I'm thinking about keeping the factory HU and installing a JL Cleansweep + amp + new speakers. But I have a suspicion a new HU would sound better, even if it didn't look quite as seamless...
It would be great if there were one central collection of information on everything from installing the HU itself to facias to wiring harnesses to what do you do with the powered speaker in the cargo area of an Avant.

wont be for another 2-3 weeks before i get the car so i have some time to do research. also, anyone know anything about JL CleanSweep? came across it while doing some search. sounds interesting since it also has an AUX-Input for Mp3 players, which i will be needing. wonder if its compatible with bose systems though. and its also about $400, yikes! lol
Most of you guys who have done receiver(head unit) or speaker install know this already. Most honda systems are amplified by the receiver. In my 96a4, the rear speakers have an amplifier (built into Lrear speaker, i believe). Thus, if you want to change out speakers or a receiver, you'll have to splice some wires. In my case, my kenwood receiver has an option to use sub out as the rear output. Therefore, I did not have to splice any wires for the rears... Of course, when it came time to install my sub, I had to wire it into the back speakers. Even though I cannot control the sub volume specifically, playin around with the EQ provides sufficient adjustment ranges for me. Just giving you a heads up if you're gonna DIY.
