It doesn't appear you have received an answer. I just received this code on my 96 A4Q today. The P1504 refers to the Idle Air Control valve. I have found the best deal on this at www.audicarparts.com. It appears to be a simple exchange.

I did find the following on a thread in a different forum location.

"My IAC was never suspected for the P1504 code I got. To get rid of the code, I went ahead to replace the accordion hose gaskets, TB gaskets, and vacuum hoses and did the smoke test and tried to replace the EGR valve but to no avail.

The car has a good idle speed except occasionally the idle speed dropped to 500s from 800s for no reason...And the code was thrown in a pretty random way. Sometimes it is when I am on the high way, sometimes it comes on when I just started the car. I had to turn off the CEL whenever it came on until I can't stand this situation anymore.

I bought a new IAC and installed it. The code went away ever since. That proved that the originally IAC was the culprit.

By the way, Does anyone know what the CORRRECT idle speed is? The original IAC I got has plastic casing but the replacement IAC I got has metal shell. I found the idle speed is around 725 rpm for the new IAC."

I just ordered my part, hopefully this helps you out.

It did for me. The 1504 code was the only code I read. After installing the IAC I cleared the codes and then after driving for a few days, I rechecked the codes - and good to go.

It took me about 30 minutes to remove and replace, not to bad seeing how it is in a tight area at the back of the engine block on my A4.

Good luck.

Yes, the idle control valve and IAC are one in the same. Good luck.
