Default Check Engine Light Code

Ok, went to Autozone, got code P1137. They told me it means o2 sensor is bad and that it was lean (according to code). Problem is there are 2 o2 sensors (before and after catalytic converter), how the hell do i know which one. Trying to avoid dealership still... Any suggestions?!

THANKS FOR ALL HELP IN ADVANCE!

You guys really need to post specifics about your car, model, year, etc...

Long Term Fuel Trim Add.Fuel,Bank1

Could be a faulty MAF sensor, vacuum lines or O2 sensor. Have you considered buying a Vag-Com for more specific diagnostics?

Clear the code and see if it comes back before you go replacing anything. Sometimes they are just a fluke. You can clear the code by disconnecting the battery for an hour or so.

Default RE: Check Engine Light Code

By the way, car is 2000 1.8tQ with 113K miles.

Here's something else Jest. I bought car in June, and it had a check engine light code- same one for the 02 sensor, a guy with a M3 checked it for me. It was there for about a month and a half, and I was too broke to do anything about it. Then in middle of June, it disappeared and did not come back until 2-3 weeks ago. I don't know if that means anything.

You think I should still just unhook the battery. Its just that main hose right? (I'm an idiot when it comes to do it yourself things).

Thanks

Battery is located between engine compartment and cabin. Remove the plastic cover and disconnect the ground (-) cable. Reconnect about an hour later. This should reset the error code.

You can do that to get rid of the idiot light. But you still have an underlying issue here. Since you are not mechanically inclined you are goign to want to get it fixed. It's nothing urgent, so whenever you get around to it. Just don't let it go on for a long time.

Any way to know of which two O2 sensors it is (without takin' it to dealership)?

Or should I just buy both and say f*ck it.

I'm not so sure it is a O2 sensor. How many miles do you have on your car? Usually when a O2 sensor goes bad they spit one of these codes:

16514 P0130 O2 Sensor Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) A
16515 P0131 O2 Sensor Circuit - Voltage Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1) B
16516 P0132 O2 Sensor Circuit - High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1) A
16517 P0133 O2 Sensor Circuit - Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1) B
16518 P0134 O2 Sensor Circuit - No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1) A
16519 P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) A
16520 P0136 O2 Sensor Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) A
16521 P0137 O2 Sensor Circuit - Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2) B
16522 P0138 O2 Sensor Circuit - High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2) A
16524 P0140 O2 Sensor Circuit - Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) B
16525 P0141 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) A
16534 P0150 O2 Sensor Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) A
16536 P0152 O2 Sensor Circuit - High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1) A
16537 P0153 O2 Sensor Circuit - Slow Response (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
16538 P0154 O2 Sensor Circuit - No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1) A

16542 P0158 O2 Sensor Circuit - High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2) A
16543 P0159 O2 Sensor Circuit - Slow Response (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
16544 P0160 O2 Sensor Circuit - No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 2) A
16545 P0161 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit - Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2) A

I wouldn't just do one. Replace them both. Acually 113,000 is pretty good for factory O2 sensors. I had to replace mine (also a 2000 A4 1.8tQ) at around 85K.

Thank God this whole thing will be solved next week. A guy who is doing all my aftermarket mods from EHT motorsports agreed to figure this whole thing out for free and just charge for the part.

Phew, I'm glad this whole thing is solved.
