No. The ecu is removed and taken apart to get to the proms and a new chip is either soldered directly on or piggybacked. The chip re-maps the system.

soldered ones are more reliable bc u will hear of people that have the prom and all of a sudden car no start. i have a prom my self and have had this happend to and had talked to an audi dealer bc i couldnt fig it out bc i was too new to the scene..lol.. and they even told me how alot of audi tt guys bring their cars in there bc of that problem thinking something messed up. its really just a spoof when it happens kinda just comes lose and u have to get out and take ur ecu apart on the spot and tighten it back up.

huh? you talkin about socketed chips? APR solders, Revo flashes..so you must be talkin about GIAC. only problem I've ever heard of with a GIAC was the tuner didn't install it correctly on brkbeats ride. Took it in and reseated it and its all good...I've never heard of one coming loose before..

rofl this reminds me of when i modded my x-box. i did all the soldering myself. I was a little hesitant. However it is very strong and if done right there won't be any problems.

LOL, try modding a PS2 sometime...makes modding an xbox look like a walk in the park! After instally my mod chip the first time, I turned it on and the disk drive shot out so fast it knocked me to the floor. Aggressive little suckers if you don't get it right.
