Default Chip Question

First things first i have been on the sticky and seen prices for just the Chips. Wondering if anyone has a final number for how much you spent on botht he chip and installation. Also is it possible to install the chip yourself?? lol yeah so im cheap and dont want to spend to much here, so the more i can do myself, the more i learn and have fun and most of all SAVE $$$ =]

price for install depends on the shop. it takes 5 min and you could do it yourself so a shop shouldn't really charge anythin but i have heard of some places that charge like 50 bux and that is total BS. so if the shop charges just install it yourself

I got APR Stock, 91, and 93 octane programs at Eurocode and there was no labor charge because they rock.
I got APR's 100 octane program done at Pure MotorSport and there was no labor charge because they rock.

Whoever is charging you labor for a 5-10 minute chip flash is probably no friend of yours and you should move on.

ALSO.....VERY IMPORTANT.....these tuner shops need to make a living so if you ARE going to have a flash done and expect free labor for it, try to have another mod done at the same time so that they can earn some additional $$$$.

Is it an actual chip that goes into your car? or is it just like a little device you plug in to your underdash serial and install programming then unplug and you're set?

Mine was $565 for the flash out the door. There is some actuall physical labor that takes more than 5 minutes. Even though its a flash, they have to do whats called a "bench flash" where they take the ecu out of the car and hook up to the computer. This is for DBW B5's. I think on the B6 they do it straight through the OBD port, and of course solder a chip into the ecu for 97-99.5.
