Chipping Cost...
I received a quote to chip my 03 1.8TQ and I just want to make sure this is normal. They quoted me $500 for the APR chip and then $40 for labor plus they recommended getting a second program of the stock settings and the cost for a second program is $150. They said I can change from the APR program back to the stock program by using the cruise control when I take it into the dealer for service. I have a 6 year 100,000 mile warranty so I definitely don't want to void my warranty but is this normal cost for something like this? I'm looking at $700 bucks for everything. Is it really worth $700?
dont get the stock program.. I would never use it... they cant tell that you are chipped anyway...
if anything i would get 91 or 93 octane (whatever you have) and Race 100.. that way .. if you ever take it to the track you can throw some race gas in.

hmmm, I'm up in the air now. I really want to chip it but I'll have to think if it's worth the risk but my gut is telling me no. I may call the dealer and just ask them over the phone and see what they say.
cold call your dealer and ask how they handle chipped cars.
The stock program is good if you have warranty left, switch it to stock when you take the car in for warranty work.
If you go in with a blown turbo or any engine component the new programming puts stress on, you can pretty much bet your *** they'll investigate the ecu and find the programming.

I can settle this for you .
I got the APR flash and stock program with security lockout feature . I used it about 3-4 times when I went into the dealer.
I realized I dont think it really matters switching back to stock. They cant tell , and they dont really care.
Its more of a peace of mind thing. If it bothers you , and you're worried , get the lockout. If not , get the 93 octane.
I just upgraded to APR 1+ and switched the stock program for the 93 octane.
Gas makes a difference

I didnt say you'd blow it due to the flash, but if you go in for anything that could be remotely attributed to "abuse" they look harder at the commonly "abused" components
My dealer doesnt care about aftermarket parts, providing you don't try to get warranty work done on components you modified .

Bringing my car in for service next week for the first time since chipping. Will be switching to stock mode and then locking it out first. The easiest way for the dealer to tell I'm chipped though, if they care, is the upgraded DV.
