Default CLEARING CEL...

I went to the dealership for my check engine light. They told me it was my MAF. Since they quoted me almost $400 I decided to research it myself. I bought one off of ECS Tuning. The only problem I'm gonna have is clearing my code. Can I just disconnect my battery for about ten minutes and will that clear my inactive code? Should I drive it first with the new sensor to make the code inactive or would it be best to find someone with a vag. Thanks.

Try disconnecting the battery first. If you still have the cell search for STEVE HALL VAG-COM LOCATOR.

I already cleared the code with a generic snap on diagnostic tool and the CEL came back. I don't have access to this anymore though thats why I'm asking.

Did you replace the MAF before clearing the CEL?

No because I blew a vacuum hose and I thought that's what generated my CEL. Replaced that hose cleared the code, code came back and then I went to the dealer for them to diagnose it.

Now that you replaced the MAF, you'll have to clear the CEL by:
diconnecting battery or
using a scan tool.

If you can't clear the CEL, you have another problem.

I understand that... My main concern is about disconnecting my battery to clear the code. Besides resetting my radio what else is gonna happen. Will the code be stored as an inactive code and eventually come back?
