how do you clear teh Check Engine light....??

my car has been sitting for like 4days, was away for a long weekend, came home and started it, and it surged up and down between 300-1000rpms, not wanting to run.... but then smoothed out, but this triggered the cel...


now when driving it or if u rev it above idle is surges again... what could cause this...., before this it was fine...

my friens 98 m3 did something similar when cold starting... but then was fine after

You need to have the car scanned for the fault code. Do you have an Autozone nearby? They can check the code and clear it for you for free.

 

autozone is at least an hour away.... so thats not really feasible...

any idea what would cause this? it did do it about a week ago... and then after driving i'd say less than 100miles and the cel went out... and it was fine... so i dunno whats up

 

It could be caused by dozens and dozens of things. No way to tell with out getting the car scanned by someone. You may want to invest in a vag-com scanner yourself. Do a search on this site for more info.

 

my local mechanic told me a way to clear the light but i don't have it any more but i just wanna to tell u there is a way.
