Climate Control Unit in 96 A4
My climate control unit(from 96) was all beat, so I bought one from a 97(1.8t) and my A/C doesn't work. the little frost symbol on the unit lights up, but the compressor doesn't start. I also can't switch to recirc.... (only works when a/c is on, correct?)
So does anyone know anything about this? I'm going to switch back to my old unit tomorrow, but was just searching for answers... TIA for all your input.

well, it's not like I spliced anything or soddered or rewired anything. It was basically a plug and play... The two units looked different: mine was slightly bigger than his, but the face and the plugs in the back were perfect fit.
On my old unit, the previous owner spilled coffee all over it... so most lights were out ( i can only see temp), '+' didn't work too well a/c button didn't work too well... but when i kept pushin it, and the frosty symbol came on, the compressor started up fine...
I'll try n switch back to my older one and see if I can get the compressor going... Meanwhile, I'm gonna throw an email to the dude who sold me, asking about this problem. I'll keep you guys posted, thanks again!
edit: so no one knows of any compatibility issues between the 96 and 97 units??
oh, can't remember from the top of my head: seperate fuse for a/c compressor? I will check that tonight, good looks!

Just put in my old unit, and a/c works fine. I guess it's either a compatibility issue or the one the guy sold me was bad. Anyways, I decided to leave the old one in, even if the buttons are all effed up and such.... cuz it's gettin hot and humid outside!
I don't mind the bulbs not working as much as the buttons being all messed up. Especially while driving, having to look to see if the button worked is a PIA, not to mention dangerous, especially in the city, trying to follow cabs through the traffic... more like trying to beat cabs through traffic, hehe.. but emailing the seller right after this....
