Climatronic display problem
I would appreciate any help on this problem: The climatronic display on my 1996 A4 sometimes does not work, but the climatronic itself works properly. Sometimes if I hit the display in the middle, or press buttons, or kick it lightly (!!) it comes back, suggesting that there is a loose connection somewhere that affects the display only. During the time of not displaying, pressing any button does the expected function, i.e. you can hear the fan speed change for example, without seeing anything on the display. There is no predictability as to when the display works or not,I just think it is worse in hot weather, and the fraction of time displaying - not displaying is about 50-50 nowadays.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix the problem, other than replacing the whole control box?

I has happened to me twice now the cup holder above the radio DO NOT USE THIS it drips all over the climate control when you have a coffee in there the sugar gets inbetween gthe buttons causeing this to malfunction there is not much you can do other than get a new part i've tried cleaning this doesn't work sorry
Sounds like it's time to disassemble! I've never heard of that problem, buy if you are bored, you may want to remove the climate control. Then take it apart and see if there are any loose connections from the lcd to the unit itself. Other than that, you can probably buy a used climate control for reletively cheap from an autodismantler.
Had this problem myself and invetigated after audi said the whole lot had to be replaced.
Get the unit out (The stereo must be removed first and then it's all plain sailing, remove the screws and remove the circuit board behind the dispaly. You will see two grey "L" shaped pieces of rubber. Gently take these out and clean of the black magnetic contacts and the part of the circuit circuit board they make contact with. Use a cotton bud with alhohol, white spirit, or even the aftershave your mother-inlaw bought you for Christams. Then use a dry bud to clean. Do this several times on each contact.
It worked for mine and has been going strong for months
