Default clutch question

in process of buying a clutch....its starting to squeal...and when it squeals it slightly slips.....and just all around feels weak...couple questions before i spend the moeny....

99.5 a4 1.8tq...114k....chipped and exhaust....

after searching it seems that everyone is pretty much in love with Southbend for clutches...thats cool...im thinking about going stage 2 but i also wanted to go ahead and get a new flywheel....

1. do i really need a new flywheel??...wanted to go lightweight...but if i dont need to spend the extra $4-$500 then id rather not

2. on their site it says "The clutch kits do not come with flywheels. But, it is necessary to know which flywheel you have or are going to be using because stock flywheels require a solid disc design and the LW flywheels require a sprung disc design."....but it doesnt give you the option to choose between the two...

3. on their site they also offer a flywheel thats like $525...damn....would i be able to buy a lw flywheel from another company and install them together? it is ok to mix brands i guess is what im asking....

4. their site also says "Pilot bearing and alignment tool are not available for some of these kits".........how do i know which ones they come with and which dont? or should i go ahead and buy a release bearing elsewhere?...

thanks in advance

You might not need a new flywheel, and I'm told that some can be resurfaced. Most people I've spoken to recommend doing the flywheel at the same time. The stock flywheel would be around $650. You can go with a lightened flywheel for a lot less, but they can sometimes be noisy, and you will definitely have to re-learn how to drive the car again. The revs drop a lot faster between shifts.

I would expect the kit to come with everything you'd need to do the install, but check with your shop. If they aren't familiar with SouthBend clutches then go somewhere that is. I'm getting ready to do my clutch in the next few months and am in the same boat. Can't decide between Spec Stage2+, SouthBend Stage 2+, or an RS4 kit. The idea of using Audi parts is appealing, but the aftermarket clutches are a lot less money and everyone here seems to be happy with them.

Good luck,

i have a friend of mines father who is pretty familiar with the inner workings of a tranmission helping me do mine....so i can learn and he can make sure i dont mess anything up.....im really back and forth with the flywheel...elegedly (spelling) the kid who had the car for me had a stage 2 clutch and new flywheel put in at 80k...even gave me the reciept but the clutch squeals and slips here and there and doesnt feel strong at all so i figured id get it done so I know it was done....could that squealing maybe be contributed to a crappy flywheel? does anyone know?

sachs's stage 2 is really good and why not go for the light weight flywheel u're in there anyway... if u dont have enough money save up and then do it cause its deffinatly worth putting in a new one since ur already in there btw how much horsepower are u playing on getting with ur car cause u wouldnt want to replace the clutch again...

oh ok then u should deff. go with the sachs stage 2 because its from the company that the stock clutch is from so u'll have a stronger clutch with normal drivability and for the flywheel in my opinion u should do it because ure in there anyway and its a great performance mod...it'll make a big difference...i have the stage 2 and im pissed i didnt upgrade to the flywheel...
