ok so my clutch began to slip a few months ago and I finally got it into an independent shop on thursday. I talked to the guy on Friday and he said that when he got the clutch out there was oil or tranny fluid (I cant remember which) all over the clutch. After further inspection of the clutch, he determined that the problem was a blocked valve that caused the oil/tranny fluid to spew out which in turn got on/in the clutch and caused it to slip. He said that my clutch was fine and that it was just the valve. He then said that he replaced the clutch anyways. Which doesnt make a lot of sense to me but I didnt have long to talk which is why i'm posting this, this morning so that I'll have something to think about before I call the shop back today. MY QUESTION: Is fixing that valve enough to fix my clutch problems (slipping)? or is replacing the clutch really necessary after having all the oil/tranny fluid in and around the clutch? I appreciate any input. Thanks.

 

It depends on how warn the clutch is. If the clutch is old and has plenty of wear, its best to just replace it now instead of paying another $300-500 in labor when it does go out not to far down the road.

 

It might also depend on how much of that oil got soaked into the material on the disk. To me it just wouldn't be worth it to try using the old clutch since there could be a good chance of it not holding.
