Default clutch replacement

here's the story:

i have a '98 Audi A4 1.8t quattro. the clutch has never been replaced and im starting to feel it slip while shifting. my mechanic also told me that it's time for a change.
i checked with audi and they have quoted me $650CAD for the clutch assembly (clutch disk, pressure plate and release bearing). they've also told me that labour will be
around 16hrs. does that sounds right? 16hrs for a quattro? labour will come to around $1200CAD. in total, after taxes it will be around $2100CAD.

i was quoted by another shop $350CAD for "shaxx" (not sure how to spell it, but it's supposedly OEM (the same company audi/vw gets their clutches from) but without the
"audi" logo on it. and another $650CAD for the install (he quotes me 8 hrs).

what do you guys think? i really REALLY dont want to spend $2100CAD for this!!!

thanks for the replies ahead of time. =)

If you spend $2,100 CAD on a clutch replacement, I might have to take a road trip up to Ontario and kick you in the nads. Find a cheaper shop, $2,100 CAD is insane.

just do it yourself. Unbolt, bolt in new clutch and reverse!! nothing major in this job. Just time. you can get an upgraded clutch and not worry about it

You make it sound so easy GraffixWB... Ever think maybe he doesn't have the tools? Desire? Inclination?

That's like saying rebuilding an engine is super easy, you're just unbolting and rebolting.

i would love to do this myself but unfortunately dont have the time to do it. i'm 24, go to 2 universities and work. i know $2100 is alot and i'm thinking of
choosing the second option, which will come to $1000CAD.

I had mine done 1 month ago. It takes maybe 8 hours to install. I got it done at an Audi shop instead of a dealer. $1100CDN.

You're getting ripped off.

I got quoted for 11 hours. 16 is ridiculous. BTW...Graffix do you really think it's that easy? I'm gonna be doing my own in a few months when it comes time for the BT.
