I am wondering if there are any differences between the rear coil springs on an Avant and a sedan. I have a broken rear that I want to replace, now that it seems to be warming up. However they are hard to find. I can find a few bone yards with wrecked sedans, but no Avants. Are the springs in the Avant beefier due to more weight in the rear?

I wouldn't mind lowering the car and getting aftermarket, but just can't bring myself to do it in snowy Minnesota. This is my DD after all.

Any help would be appreciated

 

Rear springs are certainly different between an Avant and Sedan.
The avant is heavier, so the springs will have a higher rate to support the extra weight.

Kurt, you have similar taste in cars to my own! My two favorite cars were my 1991 Honda Civic HB and my 2000 VW Passat wagon (sister to the A4 Avant). Both rear ended at stoplights by bigger cars, alas.
