Default Cold Air Intake

Looking for a good aftermarket cold air intake for an '03 1.8t. Anybody know of a good one?
Also, has anyone used an aftermarket blow off valve? if so, are you piping the wasted air back into the system, or to atmosphere?

cold air intake is pointless, the turbo will heat up that cold air anyway

as far as bov's they would need to be resurculated back into the intake
you need to be looking into diverter valves

and please search on these topics

are you kidding? a cold air intake on a turbo is absolutely not pointless. what do you think goes into the engine warmer, air from the engine compartment that is over 100 degrees to begin with, or outside air that could be ascold as 10 or 15 degrees? regardless of the turbo's temperature, colder air at intake will go into the engine colder, even if only a few degrees (which makes a HUGE difference in horsepower i.e. more dense airso more gas can be burned). Its simple thermodynamics. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but it really does make a difference.

also, there are many BOV's discharge to atmosphere. a few, off the top of my head, umm, almost every blitz BOV for subarus as well as mitsubishis. my question was to people who have installed them, how have they installed them, and what effect if any, did it have to blow off into atmoshpere?

I understand that my profile says newbie, but I am not an idiot, and I have a lot of experience working on turbocharged vehicles, and installing a high flow cold air intake is not pointless. I've seen the results.

thanks for the reply.

We'll like he said, we cannot use BOV's since the air is recirculated into the turbo.. but you can use a diverter valve which is the same concept just works correctly with Audi turbo's.

And I dont know about in other cars but a CAI does near nothing in our cars, your lucky to get 1-5HP at most with an intake. They will give you sound and some cold air for better throttle response but other than that not much. There definitly worth it if your gonna chip cause like you said, any cold air helps. The ones that are avaliable to you are

Carbanio Cold Air Intake

Evolution Motor Sports Cold Air Intake

Ill get the links for you in my next post.

since the audi came with a recirculating system alot of people just put a dv on there
there are few people here running bovs, and if they are its set to recirculate, if vented to the the atmosphere the car will run rich and will probably throw a cell.

as far as the intake, there are no "cold air intakes" available there are aftermarket intakes available like the 300 dollar carbino intake , the stock intake has a very good design as opposed to an intake on a lets say honda where they restict airflow by making the inside tube like an inch around

im sorry if i insulted your intelligence or questioned your experience
but these questions get asked pretty much every day by some dumbass kid that has no clue about anything
so that will typicically be your responce

I think what he was trying to say is it's not worth the $$$ since the stock system already does this quite efficiently. And the turbosystem is a closed system so putting a bov that blows off into the atmosphere will cause air/fuel problems.

Holy **** the price dropped on the Carbanio.

If I were you I'd go Carbanio, I had a horrible experience with Evolution. They sent me the wrong intake for my 03 A4 TWO TIMES, they have very terrible customer service and the end result was me returning there product. Especially with the Carbanio price drop, don't bother with Evolution.

Carbanio also has a amazing end result, its covered with carbon fiber, and is only 40 dollars more. It also has a better results for power...

Hope that helped.
