is there a way to tell whether or not it is the upper or lower control arm that needs replaced? I know u should replace them all at the same time but im broke right now and the sound is driving me crazy. it acts up when im driving 0-40 when the wheel is straight and if i push down on the car above the whell well. Thanks for your time, josh

douse any joint/connection you can find under the wheel wells with some wd40, that might help for a few days at a time. I would do lower and upper at the same time... You will save money because the kit with all the parts is cheaper than buying the parts individualy, and the labor is gunna be crazy if you get it done in "sections"

I wouldnt go more than a couple months if they are making noise.. But you could probably go a lot longer without problems.. An accident would be bad though.

Jack the car up and grab the wheel and move it while looking at all the joints. You will be able to see/hear which joints have failed.

if you can't afford it, just close your windows and turn up the music...
Concerning safety issues... the clunking will get worse, and the balloon rubbing noise will get worse... If the WD40 quiets them now, later, it won't do jack... I understand being low on cash, the shop I go to spotted me half the job (paid them back within 2 weeks)... but only advice is.. if you have any experience with unbolting and bolting stuff back together... do this yourself. Couldn't believe I let them charge me $1500 for the job.... should've done it all myself for half price...
