control arm bushing clunking?
well, that is what is happening, but isnt that the same symptoms of a bad TRE/CA ball joint? Once i get over 40 mph, everything is smoth as butter. And bumps dont really seem to make a huge difference. The time that i can hear the clunking is stop and go traffic on the highway (which is just small cracks in the road). If i hit a pot hole, the clunk doesnt get louder, and sometimes the clunk doesnt even happen. So I a kinda stumped. I dont have a rubber mallet, but i think i will go pick one up and just start banging on things under the car.
The clunk has gotten louder and more consistance over the last month, so it is starting to worry me. I dont want what ever it is to break on the highway.
Thanks for all the help so far.

I would recheck the front lower rear balljoint near the wheel and see if you don't have some play in that. I had mine on the rack 3 times before I found it. I knew where it was coming from but you have to wiggle the wheel just right for it to show itself.
Good Luck...

when in doubt bring it in, you never want to take any chances when you have quattro and it could be the drive system, if the sound goes away at speed, then its soulds like suspension to me. When there is load on the suspension it goes away, just a thought thou
Ok, i will go back at it tonight when i get home from work. my main concern is the safety. I just dont want what ever this clunk is to break and me get into an accident.
