Hey guys i have a Audi A4 1.8 litre non turbo and wana know what would be involved in converting it to a turbo ? Is it just a simple get the parts off a turbo model and they bolt straight on ? Anyone info would be helpful

not too familiar with the N/A 1.8 but im sure it's as simple as just swapping on the parts from a 1.8t

but the true problems would lie in the compression ratio, im sure yours is higher than a 1.8t's so you would need to go about changing that if you're wanting to run a decent amount of boost.. a couple of choices for going about that..

and then there is the software problem. i don't even want to go into that

 

^ +1 on the compression, you definitely need to change it and make it lower. And retuning the ecu to allow for those changes will be hard too.

 

N/A 1.8? Is that a european thing?

 

Couldn't imagine a 1.8 without a turbo. Didn't even know they sold them like that, where did it come from?

The turbo manifold and turbo should bolt right on. Thenyou will need to look into fuel delivery. I don't know what size fuel pump or injectors are in the 1.8 non turbo but they are probably going to need to be upgraded to a bigger size tocompensate for the extra air that the turbo will be adding.

 

to me it sounds like it is just worth buying a 1.8 that already has a turbo, sell the N/A and upgrade from there imo

 

I'd hate to think how slow a N/A 1.8 is, cause my stock 1.8T is pretty damn slow.
