cool down
if you turn the car off you loose ur oil pressure so the oil wont flow through the turbo. when this happens oil will sit on the hot metal of the turbo and can turn into sludge and basically cook. which is not good. so by leaving the car running you keep the oil moving and preventing it from cooking.
r you asking about my car?

Your engine will continue to rise in temperature if you shut it down (I know it sounds stupid but its true... been tested) your engine will cool down a lotfaster if you drive around very easy for a mile or too and wait 30 secs before turning off. This is the best method I have found reason being:
1, Drive around for a couple of miles and your still getting air flowing in and cooling your motor down.
2, let it idle for 30 secs when stationary, just to let everything wind down and oil get to where it needs to get to etc etc.. Everything back in its place.
This is the best way we found to get the engines to warm down.
Yes it is obvious when turbo kicks in and yes it is around 2500 to 3000 rpm mark

ill have to try that. usually i go around my neighborhood real slow and let the engine cool down. sometimes ill put a fan over my turbo when i park in the garage if it is really hot.
In all honesty (I wasn't gonna post this cos of the flak i'm sure to cop) the best way to ensure you have let it idle for right amount of time is to get a really good quality T/Timer, one that will automatically adjust the time that it stays on depending on how much you have been thrashing it. I think they are brilliant.
its black
im never gonna have the time to install it

AND FAIR WARNING since i care about my AF memebers and i dont want to screw any of u over
they say if u have turbo timer you can lock your car wit the remote anymore
i hear this about the B6s but i dunno about the B5s
