Could be a bad coolant level sensor, which I believe is in the resevoir. If you drain it out make sure you fill with half G12 coolant and half distilled water.

Did you check the coolant level?

If the coolant is low, adding some distilled water and G12 antifreeze will turn the light off. However, you then need to find out why the AF level was low. Make sure you chekc the waterpump.

If the reservoir is full, check the sensor.

I think it could be the just the weather, if it was really cold. I am having the same problem, and i agree with David, I think its the sensor. Cost around ~$10 CAD. Also, was wondering, I went to AUDI and they told me that I cannot "change" my tranny fluid because its "enclosed" and that you dont need to change it. [sm=wtf.gif]. Doesnt that make you wonder?. All i read in the forums is that they want to flush their tranny fluids and put in new ones. Also I am also in the market of doing a "tune-up" and changing the wires what kind of spark plugs should i get and what kind of wires?. Thanks
Also could the engine flushes be done anywhere or should i go to AUDI?
Thanks

You don't say what year your car is or how many miles.

a tune-up consists of changing your spark plugs. Unless your wires have cracks or are out of specs for resistance, don't change them.

The transmission is a "sealed" unit. Audi says it is "lifetime fluid". That means that the fluid will last the life of the transmission. Of course, your transmission will fail earlier if you don't change the fluid. I'd suggest the following:

1. If your car is off warranty, stop going to Audi and find a good VW/Audi mechanic.

2. I'd sugest changing the transmission fluid (at least a drain and fill of 2-3 quarts at 60K miles.

3. I wouldn't suggest an engine flush.
4. Get a turkey baster and change your power steering fluid your self. Use Pentosin 11S.
5. Anyone can flush the radiator, including yourself. Refill with a 50/50 of G12 antifreeze and distilled water.
6. Check the cells on the battery and top up with distilled water.
7. Bleed your brakes if they haven't been done in the last 2 years. Refill with Dot 4+
8. Have someone check and change rear and center differential (assuming it is quattro).

you can't just drain the tranny fluid it has to be pumped in at a certian tempature not something you can do yourself also yes it is life time fluid you don't need to do anything unless u are replacing the tranny

At the dealer yes you are going to pay more but you are paying for there knoledge those guys are going to courses all year long to learn more about these cars these courses are not offered to independent mechanics unless u are just getting some regular maintance done take it to the dealer for other problems

also david the batterys are maintance free so you can not add anything to them

I disagree on several points.

I the transmission has to be a certain temperature to read at the correct level. Temperature can be checked with a VAG-Com.
The fliud doesn't have to be pumped out. However, it does need to be pumped in through the fill point
Although it is "lifetime"---I would certainly change out a few quarts and replace it with fresh after 50K miles. After all, Audi couldn't care less what happens to your car after the warrany expires. That is the owners problem, not Audi's.

Batteries are not maintenance free, they are low maintenance. Unless you have a completely sealed battery, which very few people have, the electrolyte still needs to be replenished will distilled water a couple of times a year.

As far as paying for dealer expertise, I'd much rather go to an independent garage that specializes in VW/Audi.

You don't always get what you pay for, especially at the dealer.

I never swaid it needs to be pumped out we are not working on boats here and Audi has been very helpfull with customers where cars have been out of warrenty unless you are careless with yours not doing the regular maintance and leaving that cel on for months we have seen it all why should Audi help you out but on certain cases they will

and the Audi factory batteries are conmpletly sealed haha I'm not sure what you are looking at but I know we can'
t top these up

You do what you need to do I guess but don't be begging for help from your dealer for a discount if you only go there once a year for that dealer onlypart

My Audi battery wasn't sealed...

1. It has a small drain tube that blows off gas through the little hole in the battery support plate

2. The top plates that cover each of the three cells pry off with a flat screwdriver so that you can add distilled water.
