Default could the gas im using be causing my CEL?

97 1.8t

I have the Lean Fuel cel light that comes on with no rhyme or reason.

I have replaced the MAF, replaced both O2 sensors, bought a new gas cap, checked all the vacuum lines (at least 10 times no lie) , replaced a couple of the vacuum lines and put new clamps on and I am basically tearing my hair out at the moment why it keeps coming on.

Could it be possible the 93 octane sunoco gas im using is making it happen? Should I be using 91 octane gas from some other station

Heres the course of events. I will clear the CEL, and sometimes I can go up to 150 miles with out it popping back on but it will pop on anywhere in between 20 miles and 150. Or sometimes it won't come on at all and then I will fill up my tank and 20 miles later it will be on.

It makes absolutly no sense to me and its driving me nuts.

The gas shouldn't cause a lean code. Post the code.

Could be something fuel related, but not the type of/where you get your gas from. From what I know, its highly uncommon in B5's, but a clogged injector(s) or FPR, or anything that could restrict the flow of fuel could cause a lean condition. Since youve replaced the most obvious stuff, try running a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner or a bottle of seafoam through the gas tank once. Your car is all stock right? Check the wiring to the MAF, and that the plug is seated properly and none of the wires are coming out of the plug/wiring harness.

heres a funny question, if I fix the problem will the CEL go off by itself? cause I have just been clearing it with the reader...I got some fuel injector cleaner and im going to check all the MAF wires after the motor cools off so I don't burn my hand again like I did at lunch.

changed that one already.

as an update, I put 89 octane gas in last night with injector cleaner. I took the entire airbox off, checked the maf to see if it was coated with oil or anything, checked all the wires, etc.

after 44 miles the cel went on again. This is insanity
